Nominations will be accepted until May 31, 2017.
May is Speech & Hearing Awareness Month. To celebrate, Deaf & Hear Alberta is launching its second annual Safe Sound Awards. Our aim is to raise awareness about hearing loss and hearing health. The Safe Sound Awards is an opportunity to recognize places in the community that offer a sound friendly space.
Everyone is invited to nominate and vote for their favourite venue in the following categories:
- Best Safe Sound Restaurant – Where do you go to eat and are able to have a good chat without yelling? A common comment about restaurants is that they are often too loud.
- Best Safe Sound Family Fun Venue – Where can you take your kids for fun without getting a headache from the noise?
- Best Safe Sound Fitness or Recreation Venue – Where can you work up a sweat without getting ringing in your ears?
- Best Safe Sound Seniors’ Venue – As a senior, where do you meet up with friends for a visit or your favourite activities? Is the sound in the space manageable and do they provide an assistive listening device if you need it?
All the nominees will be given a Safe Sound decal to display on their doors to acknowledge and promote that they are a hearing friendly space. As well, nominees will be listed on our website. To wrap-up the Safe Sound Awards, we will announce a winner from each category, that has received the most community votes.
To encourage community engagement, there will be a draw for the individuals who nominate and/or vote for their favourite sound friendly spaces.
